About National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine & Health Care

High School students explore a career in Medicine

Get Your Hands on Your Future in Medicine

National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine & Health Care is your chance to step into the shoes (and scrubs) of a physician and gain transformational medical school and career knowledge. Discover the right path for your future through a fun and interactive curriculum that will allow you to test your personal and academic strengths in true-to-life simulations and hands-on clinical training, while you gain the confidence needed to give yourself a leg up in the future.

Outdoor Medicine Simulation: When Care Is Hours Away

Created by the late wilderness medicine expert Dr. Paul Auerbach and simulation expert Dr. Rebecca Smith-Coggins while professors in Stanford University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine, this realistic simulation will allow you to learn and practice potentially life-saving medical techniques, including positioning and extraction, wound care, control of bleeding, usage of splints and slings, and basic wilderness first aid. All of these skills will come into play as you plan your next hiking or camping expedition. In addition, you'll also learn how to make important emergency care items out of common hiking materials in the improvisation station.

Triage Simulation: When Disaster Strikes

In this simulation, designed in collaboration with Mary desVignes-Kendrick, M.D., M.P.H., Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, and her team, you'll respond to a disaster as a medical professional, assess and sort victims based on the severity of their injuries, and practice applying your medical knowledge in high-pressure environments.

  • Is the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine & Health Care program for me?

This summer program is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring the various career options available to you in medicine and health care. NYLF Medicine & Health Care is your springboard to achieving tremendous success in college and in a future medical career.

To attend NYLF Medicine & Health Care, you must be in grades 9-12 during the 2023-2024 school year. Most of our students are either nominated by educators or selected through our academic partnerships; however, we do accept a limited number of students through our application process. If you have not been nominated or selected but are interested in taking advantage of the life-changing opportunities that the program provides, we encourage you to submit an application today.

  • What is included in tuition?

Your tuition for NYLF Medicine & Health Care includes housing, on-site meals, supervisory personnel, program materials, all program activities, site visits, a Certificate of Completion, and local transportation during the program.

However, your transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition. While attending the program, you will only need money for one to two off-site meals, souvenirs, snacks, and other incidentals.

  • How will I be supervised?

Your safety and well-being during the program is our highest priority. The program is structured so that you will reside in a safe, controlled environment. You will be closely supervised by professionally trained staff, including faculty advisors who serve as educational facilitators and chaperones, security personnel, operations personnel, and a program coordinator.

For over 35 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:
